Spring Into Easter with Tropicals!
Easter is such a magical time of year; after months of short days and cold weather, this spring holiday is the perfect chance to add some vibrant colours to our indoor spaces. Luckily, Belgian’s tropical greenhouses offer a beautiful range of tropical houseplants to boost your décor!
Reiger Begonia
These hybrid begonias are perfect for tabletops and mixed dish gardens, with large clusters of rosebud blooms available in a wide range of vibrant colours. The large, waxy green foliage is the perfect backdrop for those colourful flowers, which can last anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks! They grow best in medium, indirect light; keep them evenly moist but do not allow them to sit in water or dry out.
Kalanchoe
Bright and cheerful! The dense clusters of tiny flowers will last for weeks and are typically found in shades of white, pink, yellow, and red. These long-lasting blooms, along with their bright green and waxy leaves, are the perfect addition to windowsills and countertops, adding a bright pop of colour to your bright living spaces. Keep these compact bloomers in medium to bright direct light and allow to dry slightly between deep waterings.
Gerbera Daisy
A spring classic! Large yellow or brown “buttons” are surrounded by masses of brightly coloured petals in shades of white, yellow, orange, red, pink or rose. Their strong, sturdy stalks make them ideal for cut flower arrangements, or keep them in a sunny spot on your tables and shelves for a bright pop of vibrant colour! Let them dry slightly between deep waterings, and feed a flowering plant fertilizer once a month to keep them strong and healthy.
Calla Lily
Technically not a Lily (its botanical name is Zantedeschia) but it’s so gorgeous all the same! Their tapered blooms are often pure white but are also available in shades of pink, red, yellow, or even lavender, with lush green foliage acting as the perfect backdrop. A classic for cut flower arrangements, they’ll need a bright sunny spot to keep up those gorgeous colours; keep them evenly moist and give them a flowering plant fertilizer once a month.
Potted Spring Bulbs
Nothing says “Easter” like a centrepiece of spring flowering bulbs! Adorable yellow daffodils, fragrant hyacinths, and colourful tulips are typically available in small pots around late winter to early spring. Snip their strong stalks to create gorgeous bouquets or leave them in their pots to thrive in a sunny area. Belgian also carries thousands of these varieties in their bare-basics bulb form, but those need to be planted in fall before they can grace our gardens with their stunning displays.
